Graphic Design Questions:

Can I use Microsoft Word or Publisher for graphic design?

Ans: Unfortunately, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. are not graphic design tools or programs, so you shouldn’t rely on them for graphic design. These programs convert images automatically to RGB, which is not used for print. These are not page layout programs, so it will be more time consuming to lay out any images for the designer. When laying out any graphics or content, ByteCode recommends sticking with graphic design tools, such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Photoshop. If you’re not that familiar with any of these graphic design platforms, there’s not a shortage of online tutorials that can teach you how to use them and explain all the different features. You can do a lot with Adobe Photoshop, from touching up photos to enhancing the color to layering your designs.Adobe Illustrator also has a realm of opportunities for your graphic design. Let’s say your graphic design content contains data. Well, Adobe Illustrator lets you present your data in a detailed and manageable format. Adobe Illustrator also has typesetting features, allowing you to format text in a fast fashion. Adobe InDesign, another platform for graphic design, can be utilized for all different types of media like books, magazines, posters, brochures, flyers and newspapers.

Can I use images from the Internet for graphic design use? If not, where can I go to get free stock pictures?                                                                                                                                         Ans: Sno, when using images from the Internet for graphic design, you run the risk of Copyright Infringement. Images cannot be pulled from other websites and image search engines. Also, images from the Internet are usually low resolution, which is unable to be used for print. Unfortunately, images on search engines like Google and Bing aren’t up for grabs and you can’t use them as your own for graphic design. Most people forget that all photographs and images are owned by someone, so you need to get permission to use the photo before you use it for graphic design.

How will I receive my graphic design project once it’s finished?                                            Ans: A finished project is yours upon receipt of final payment for graphic design projects. At your request, we will supply the electronic files to you on CD or through e-mail. We also keep a copy of your project on file for later updates or in case you lose your copy (up to 3 months). We will hang onto any art files produced for the client. These are saved so that we can make any changes or reprints in the future.
Who Owns the Copyright for Work That ByteCode Has done for Me?

Ans: The client owns the Copyright and intellectual property rights of all projects, which are paid in full to us. We reserve the right to add any projects to portfolio sites to show work examples. When starting graphic design service, our designers work closely with the client to figure out the direction for the design. Important information, when starting graphic design assignments, may include: target audience, assets to include (such as vector logos, imagery, etc.), and content to include. The designer will provide an estimated date/time for the first proof. All clients are welcomed to email or call our designers to follow up on the progress.

I want to design a logo for my company. How does that process work? Will I be charged more if I want revisions made to the graphic design or reorders? Does ByteCode have client references?                                                                                                                                 Ans: When designing a graphic design logo, our designers work closely with the client to create the client’s vision. We will research and present three logo concepts. The client will provide initial direction and insight into their business to aid in this development. There will be no design fee to re-orders that do not require artwork changes. There will be an art charge of $20 per hour spent on any additional changes to prior artwork. If you want to read through reviews before deciding to partner with us for your graphic design needs, you can find a full list of our client testimonials on our website. http://bytecode.nyc/old/bytecode-testimonials/

In graphic design, what’s the difference between high-resolution and low-resolution images?                                                                                                                                                  Ans: Before this question can be answered, it’s important to explain how the resolution is measured in the world of graphic design service. Even if you’re not that familiar with the resolution, you probably have some idea that it has to do with a graphic’s clarity and sharpness. The resolution is associated with the ink dots that make up your image, also referred to as electronic pixels. In graphic design, these pixels are called DPI (dots per inch). Other measures of resolution include PPI (pixels per inch), LPI (lines per inch) and SPI (samples per inch).

Can I Change a Low-Resolution Image to High Resolution?

Ans: High resolution is 300 dpi (dots per inch), whereas low-resolution pictures are less than 300 dpi. Images that are in high resolution provide a clearer picture, due to the concentrated and tight combination of dots per inch. Conversely, you’ll notice more dots on a low-resolution image, and the picture won’t be as precise. In graphic design, low-resolution images are going to look pixelated, blurry and not as clear-cut as high-resolution images. High-resolution images are needed for print design to produce crisp, clear images. Lower resolution images can be used for the web. No, you cannot change a low resolution to be high resolution in graphic design. There is no way to add pixels to a low-resolution image. Is there a specific timeframe on graphic design projects at ByteCode?

Ans: Each project’s timeframe will be different, contingent on the amount of time necessary to complete the design. The designer will advise the client on the estimated amount of time spent, along with the estimated timeframe the first proof will arrive via email to the client. We understand that some graphic design projects need to be expedited for your convenience. Our graphic designers here are ready to help with graphic design assignments such as rush design jobs and rush print jobs, so you don’t have to worry about graphic design deadlines and falling behind schedule. Depending on the in-hands date, we can rush as much as possible to get the job complete.

What’s the difference between CMYK color and RGB in graphic design?

Ans: CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) is a four-color process model, which is used for color printing. RGB (red, green, blue) is a color model that is used for displaying images on electronic systems, including computers and televisions. When implementing the graphic design for print, all images and assets must be converted to CMYK color to print properly. This is done in Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. When images are converted into CMYK color, they may not be as vivid and vibrant as they were displayed on the screen.

What are PMS colors?

Before using either of these color systems in graphic design, you should note that one system isn’t necessarily better than the other. With that being said, both of these color systems are used for different things. CMYK color is used by color printers, and the types of media used with this particular color system include signs, posters and flyers. On the other hand, RGB is used on computers and other electronic devices. A Pantone Matching System (PMS) is a proprietary color space used for printing spot colors. When printing PMS colors, they do not need to be broken down when printing, as a CMYK would need to.

What’s the difference between vector based graphics and images in graphic design

Ans: When learning about graphic design service, it’s essential to understand that images are made up of pixels, whereas vector-based graphics is made up of paths. Vector graphics can be used at larger sizes without losing quality or resolution. In graphic design, the main difference between vector graphics and images is that vector based graphics isn’t made up of pixels. Instead, they are made up of paths. The paths, which can be triangles, lines, squares and other geometrical shapes, are categorized by start points and end points (also referred to as control points or nodes). Think of an x Andy diagram: the specific points have their position on the axis, which then controls the path’s direction. The paths can also be assigned different features like fill, stroke color, thickness, and shape.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Graphic Design

Since vector graphics is not made up of pixels, those particular graphics can be sized differently than regular images. Vector graphics has a lot of advantages over regular images, the most important being that they’re scalable. In graphic design lingo, this means that they are resolution independent. If you’re still lost, their size can be adjusted without altering your design.

So, if you need your image to be bigger but you don’t want to worry about ruining resolution, you can. However, if you wish to create imagery that’s realistic with graphic design,  you are not going to get it with vector graphics because photographs can not be used as vector graphics. Due to this, vector graphics is closer related to illustrations rather than realistic imagery. While there are plenty of benefits with vector graphics, a big downside to using them in graphic design is that they can’t portray the tones of a photograph.
